Post anything you'd like. We have no problem with you or your non-tattoo photos. As for that other poster, let's just say that sometimes, a hatchet gets the hammer.

  2. Colour! Pic pinched from Clare's instagram as I am sore, having a beer and don't have anyone at home to help me take pics yet. Have another appointment in two weeks to add on. We are doing a peony on inner bicep (couldn't resist with all the peony envy going on right now) which will wrap around and fix up the gap in her arm, mallard duck and fox with fruithat. Unsure if we will add on piece by piece or use the next session to get everything else lined.

As promised I have now managed to get some pictures of my fully outlined back. I never imagined it would be so many lines when I started but after 5 sessions and 15 hours in total we have completed the first stage. Very happy with it and can't find enough mirrors to look at all the detail.

I can only imagine that stuff like this makes moderation duties a bummer, so thanks for taking it on and responding so quickly, @hogg. You are the bee's knees.

  8. So.... We're putting on a show.... April 24-26, 2015 in Downtown Tulsa, OK.... We are still working on the site, and getting artwork done, but.... oklahomatattooshow We're trying really hard to get a well-rounded line-up together, and put on a nice event for not only the artists and vendors, but more importantly to showcase some amazing tattooing to our new home state.... Feel free to message me or shoot an email directly to the show if you or anyone you know is interested in participating, or just attending the event... Thanks, Jen

    Use of Painkillers

When it comes to pain and tolerance I think it's important for you to find your sweet spot. The longest I've ever been tattooed was roughly 5.5 hours and I realized right afterwards that I never wanted to go through that again. It wasn't bad but unless your getting tattooed by an artist that isn't local or traveling great distances there is no need for it. For me I've learned that 3-4 hour sessions are the sweet spot depending on location of the piece. It isn't too short and it isn't too long.

  11. Brewing a Belgian pale. Nothing special with the recipe, but I'm going to be giving a portion of it to Dana Helmuth this Thursday in celebration of completing my back piece. I want to come up with some good labels, but I'm having a hard time coming up with a good pun name. Because that's what all the cool home brewers do. A good pun beer name goes a long way. Back Tattoo Brew Back Piece Pale Yeah, 15 minutes of brainstorming and that's all I have. This is why I don't name any of my beers. This one is a pale, that one is an amber.

Hey dudes, maybe listen to women when they say they find something insulting, instead of telling them how they should take it. It's an infantilizing, objectifying and therefore misogynist thing to say, even if you "mean it" as a compliment. And I agree with @SnowyPlover, it's a nice reminder of why being a woman into tattoos can kind of suck.

    Old tattoo photos

I work part time in a gun shop and this old guy walks in sporting, among other things, a Stoney St. Claire pinup. His best recollection was that it was done in the 60's or 70's. Stoney had a shop in Columbus from 1970 to 1980 so this tracks. The forearm piece was apparently his ex-wife's name "Mildred"? that Stoney had covered up and changed to "Mom & Dad". That rose is all but gone...

@Mush @DeathB4Decaf We usually have a LST meet up at the Montreal convention, both of you should come and hang out! I will hopefully have my back done by then so we can have a backpiece party! @rozone Why would you get tattooed by anybody other than a wizard?

  20. I'll def be there Saturday. I'm getting tattooed by Darcy Nutt for a nice 5-6 hour session. Then I'm gonna cruise around and check out everyone else's stuff, maybe try to snag a walk up if I can.

    Motorcycles

@Cork. Not too bad a job swapping out bars, but ya gotta get the right length cables to swap out also so a little fiddly there running the lines, then controls & riding position. No, the arms don't get tired, if anything with the slammed rear, a little more compromising on the lower back, but not that much to worry about. High bars look more awkward than what they actually are. Like, the drag bars or Weston bars have nice handling, but the Apes seem to track the bike better without having to concentrate as much on the counter steer when riding the twisties. That's what I reckon anyway. Long gone are the days where I'd compromise comfort for kool, so it's a bonus having this motorcycle set up pretty good that captures both. I know...sports bike riders don't understand it :). That's cool. - - - Updated - - - @Breakme. Go the Triple! ;)

  36. Going pretty big to be honest, i've got my whole back (and arse if required) to fill, so i'm interested to see what Marius comes up with to fill the space. Gonna be some sort of battle royale, definitely want an eagle included so thinking eagle/snake most likely, maybe a skull in there for good measure if it all works together. Honestly though i just love his work, so i'm trying to go in to it with as vague an outline as possible to just let him run with it. Will definitely keep you posted, i'm going to be in Oslo from the 13th, appointment is on the 15th then i'll head back home fairly early the next day. I have no plans on the saturday/sunday so if you are around at all on either of those days, count me in. And thanks for the baccy info, definite no go! At least that means i won't have to change up quite as much money.

  37. Oh and i almost forgot, what is the price of tobacco like out there? Specifically pouches of golden virginia (is it even available in Norway?!) I don't smoke but my brother and father always insist on loading me up like a god damn drug mule every time i go abroad, so if i don't find out prices i may be excommunicated from the family

    NY LSTers!

I used to be convinced I hated New York - it turns out that always arriving at the Port Authority bus terminal and walking through or around Times Square to get to my destination were 95% responsible for that feeling.

    NY LSTers!

My wife was way more than irritated when I told her I was planning on a back tattoo in January. I'm still going on the consult to discuss colors and design, but will not book anything. Have to pick my battles. Ironchef, custom pool cues ? What do you have ? Where do you play ? I mainly play at Amsterdam in Manhattan.

    Why skull figures?

When people get tattooed it is usually an outward reflection of their internal climate, and what with damn near every person on the planet being obsessed with their death, skulls tend to be a popular motif.

@Cork - nearly done - 3-4 sessions and he wants it done by the end of the year. FML. With much trepidation, I'm booked every other Friday through Jan 2. Through the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. I think it's quite insane, but we have a dive vacation at the end of Jan and he feels very strongly about not going more than 3ish weeks between sessions. UGH! I think I'll be burning some sick days trying to stay healthy. Red and irritated at the top, and some of the marker is showing through. We have to fade out the sides around my ribs (joy) and a few more little critters below my waist to come. Aside from final whites and highlights most of this is done, EXCEPT for the eagle rays in the very center. It's pretty obvious they are still the first coat of paint. Those eagle rays were the reason I wanted a tattoo - I may have described this elsewhere, but that was a picture I took very early one morning right off the dive boat, and their beauty and strength I wanted to capture with a tattoo on my back. (Every critter here is a picture I took scuba diving and my tattoo artist created the scene from my photographs.) So, in the tradition of bringing the dragon to life by filling in the eyes last, we are saving the eagle rays until the end to bring this around full circle and bring the ocean scene to life.

Did 4 more hours today. Was supposed to be a 6 hour session but due to circumstances on both mine and Kian's side we changed it to a 4. I am glad to say it is now time to re-commence my backpiece. For the last 2-3 months it has been all about things and butt etc etc. I had actually forgotten that I was doing a backpiece. :) I am quite tall so my butt and thighs is a substantial amount of area to tattoo. Today we have all but finished up that area and started colour on background elements further up. I love looking at the progress after every session but after starting colour on my "back" I realise I still have a long way to go.

    Kitsune

I really want a gu-mi-ho somewhere on my body. It's the Korean version of the kitsune, the folklore is just a bit different. I believe a gu-mi-ho is a fox that lives a 1000 years then gains the ability to transform into a woman. She then seduces men to eat their livers/hearts. Being the man-hating feminist that I am, that's pretty rad. Joking of course..kinda :). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
