  6. I got this Filipino tribal collar/chest from Melissa Manuel at Humble Beginnings in San Jose, CA. I feel so much more complete! This is how it was lookin' before, after the two chest pieces from Walter McDonald.

  7. 22 hours in! I’m in love. I know people think it’s weird a woman has a turkey vulture back piece but I’m stoked ❤️

  8. Here's a small one I got yesterday. It's a snail warrior, a symbol of the band Heilung. They play music derived from pre-viking northern tribes. Very ancestral.

  9. Try walking on your feet, not the tattoo! Seriously though, that's very common for lower leg tattoos, give it a week. Then give it 4-8 weeks to heal completely.

  10. Not really a new tattoo but I got a call from the shop that did my tattoos. They are having a professional photographer come in to shoot some of the artists favorite pieces and the artist who did mine choose one of mine as one of his favorites that he wanted shot. Thought that was pretty sweet. I’m guessing it’s the clipper ship but I’m not sure.

  14. Here's an update at around 20 hours. The outline took 3 sessions to finish, around 10 hours (so. many. lines.). But we've been making steady progress with relatively short appointments every 2-3 weeks, and the cover up is almost done. I'm loving the wildflower color palette and all the little creatures peeking out here and there.

  15. Just had my first session on my back piece 😍 covering up a couple little sticker tattoos while we’re at it. I’m in love. Work is being done by Travis Hulshizer at the green gazelle is KC MO. I can’t say enough good things about him. Turkey vultures are my favorite bird and I’ve been dreaming of a large scale piece with one in it. I told him the vaguest of ideas and he delivered this. I’m SO excited. Also holy shit the back hurts

  18. Finished with Mike and finally got to posting it. Super stoked on how it came out and how easy it was to get lines and shading in one session and color the next.

Got this little bowl of ramen tattooed while I was in Tokyo a couple of weeks ago. Picture taken immediately after session so it’s a little reddish but it has healed really nicely.

It's been a good while since I posted on here so here are a few bits I've had over the last year or two, there are more but these are the only ones that I have pics to hand. A couple from Steve Byrne My leg as been in progress for about two years now, one session to go, by Damien Rodriguez Oliver Macintosh

  31. This is a tattoo I have on my leg which was done 22 years ago. It looked completely legible at the time. Now the black mass of hair and the face have become quite obscured. The one redeeming factor with time is that the ink tends to fade a bit in intensity, which means the option for a touch up after a good chunk of time can help remedy an old tattoo. I may one day get this one reworked with more whites to help create better separations. But ultimately it was a bad design choice. I thought maybe sharing an aged tattoo with lots of black could help this thread.

  32. Finally, my turkey vulture back piece is finished in just around 30 hours. Hammered out a 5 hour session yesterday to color in all the flowers/petals and some background shading. Stood up to take final photos and nearly passed out. The lower back is BRUTAL and apparently back dimples are incredibly nerve rich because those had me gasping. So glad to be done with this. I’m wondering though, if I found this to be such an incredibly painful process, can I handle having my legs done? I’ll do my other sleeve first and then probably start leg work. I feel both badass and weak! Either way I’m in love with it.

  34. I'm two sessions in on a flora and fauna back piece by Virginia Elwood. The piece is covering up a somewhat ill-advised first tattoo that I got after surviving a very tough year at age 18, and I'm pushing 40 now, so it seemed like a good moment to move onwards and upwards. I'm so in love with how it's coming out. Everyone is right about some of these spots being no joke though — 3-4 hours feels like PLENTY for one day. My next session is this week to add some more creatures in some of the spaces along the sides and hopefully start some shading. Should be "fun"!

  36. Here's a decent photo of it. Nearly healed now. 🙂 This was a gift from my tattoo artist ... he's moving three hours away. Boooooo. But I'm happy for him. It's a great new studio, and he'll be closer to his family.

  37. My artist's shop reopened with one person at a time and only two artists working. Everyone wears masks, and they can only get in a couple of scheduled tattoos a day (no walk-ins). Got this yesterday. My artist and I both love John Prine.

  38. They spend too much time thinking about how cool they’ll be and too little time thinking about this artist, the design, the aftercare, the stigma, and the fact that unlike on TV, having one removed isn’t a painless 10 minute process that leaves the skin looking like new. in short, they don’t think the whole thing through.

  42. Here’s my progress so far on my sleeve from Bobby Cupparo @ LOVEMACHINE N.Y.C. We’re about 25 hours in so far - I think we’ve roughly got about that left before the project is finished. I had (and have) ink fallout from black inks so my blacks usually need some touching up. The lionness was the first piece of the sleeve to be worked on, and was recently worked on this past Saturday. The mandrill is a few months finished at this point. Everything usually gets touched up a slight bit going into each session to address problem areas.

  45. My tattoo addition from yesterday at the Veterans benefit at Broad Wing Tattoo in Bowling Green, OH. Great participating in such a meaningful event. They posted today on IG that they raised about $7300 for Vietnam Veterans of America. 3 more nails in the coffin.

  46. And thus the photos have been posted, it has now officially happened. My butt has been tattooed. I didn't like it and I don't like the healing either. I also was super bummed that I didn't get to go to the San Francisco Asian Art Museum

  48. Just got back from the doctor. Clearly infected and put me on triple antibiotics right away. They were like, "yea we're going to give you the standard antibiotics because you can't wait any longer until you have to go the ER" They also said to clean it with hibiclens and put a thin layer of aquaphor. No tegiderm tho.
