    Latest tattoo lowdown.....

Grime put it on Instagram so I figured it'd be cool to post here. The ass section of my back... He said he wanted to wait to shade the center of the flower until he sees what other colors are used on the rest of the tattoo. Who am I to question? :D

  6. I shouldn't be allowed outside without a chaperone. My girlfriend and I went out for lunch this afternoon. Since we were right around the corner from The Pearl in Toronto I decided to stop in and say hello. Just a few moments before we got there Tim Pausinger had a couple of last minutes cancellations. Perfect timing! I had a few ideas on my phone and after brief discussion Tim drew up a design and got to work. I had a tattoo done last week that was healing nicely and so I figured what the hell. Let's do it. I've got another appointment on Friday, another on the 18th and two in April. I think I'll take a wee break at that point before beginning the work on my chest.

I've gotta admit, I never noticed the lack of black women in flash/tattoos before. I feel kinda stupid now. Done by Dusty Neal (more info at THE STATIC AGE, I started thinking one day how I )

    Checkin' in from Texas...

Welcome to LST! Lots and lots of great artists in Austin and Houston. My top recommendation for traditional would be Rock of Ages in Austin. You can't go wrong there.

  13. Effective immediately, due to a major ink shortage caused by @else the price of ink will be increasing dramatically on the limited quantity that is left. The now rare tattoo ink will be more expensive per ounce than Rhodium.

  20. A guaranteed way to tell if your artist is excited about your tattoo is to ask them to tattoo some one else's flash . I got a Mike Malone piece from Ian Flower and he said " I'll even tattoo it with my Malone machine for no extra charge " ha ha.

    Any gun owners out there?

Very true, but at the speeds it runs, and in the close-quarters typically found in self-defense situations, hollow-points consistently fail to expand, whether because they are through the mass before they can, or because-and this is more common-they are clogged with textiles before they can. I would never tell someone NOT to use a 9, it's strictly a personal preference thing. I saw a friend of mine take a 9mm Super-Vel sjhp centerpunchin the belly from about three feet. He doubled-up, ran down a flight of stairs, across two front yards, up two flights of stairs, and blew away the shooter with the .357 he recovered from his room. That kinda soured me on them. Saw some similar things over the years that reinforced that feeling, but again, it's strictly a matter of personal preference.

  25. Nice! That is such a great neighbourhood. I hope your friend is enjoying the area and Toronto in general. So many good restaurants, cafes, and nightlife around there. Its also a very community minded part of town - people look out for each other. I'm pretty stoked about Nick Collela coming too. I think he is there from April 3-6. I booked an appointment on the 3rd. Tim is a great artist and a very nice guy as well. Your friend will be pleased with whatever Tim does, I'm sure.

  27. If they come here and ask for opinions, that shows that they're different from most 16-year-olds (whom you accurately describe in your other post). I like to think of LST as a place where people of all ages can get great advice. If they don't wanna follow it, then they're free to enjoy their shitty tattoo. (No shots)

  28. Emo + Metro + Hobo = Hipster. Take a bunch of trust fund money, add vintage clothes (to look nearly homeless) + high end accessories (so other hispsters know you are not actually a scary homeless person)+ Mac products, a few thoroughly unoriginal tattoos, throw on some trendy pseudo-folk music, and you have a newly minted hipster ready for funemployment.

  29. Thanks guys. I knew I really wanted to get tattooed by Matt and was up in the air with a few options. I pitched him a spider and a scorpion, and he went with what he knew. I couldnt be happier. It was a good experience. Also he asked me if i wanted to enter the contests they were having so I said sure. Ended up winning Best in Show and sending him back to Seattle with a big ass skull for winning.

  32. Not every piece you do is one you will be super excited about. But just because the piece might not be your particular favorite does not change the fact that every client deserves the best possible tattoo you can give them. I find that if I have a piece I am not thrilled about I get feedback from my staff and brainstorm as to how I can do something different with the tattoo while still meeting the guidelines my client has given me. If I do some homework generally I can find a way to make the design something I can get excited about. If an artist truly does not want to do the tattoo then perhaps he or she can share the work with another artist in his or her shop? As a professional it is best to not let your lack of enthusiasm show, however I do not think that this means that artists are any less genuine in their efforts to serve a clients particular needs.

bist Du Soldaten oder Polizei, oder Shweiz? - - - Updated - - - Compliments of my pal Jimmy, known as JBW on the Enfield boards... Brass/origin: Jamison/USA, Bertram/Australia, or reformed CBC-Magtech 24 gauge brass hulls/Brazil. All are Boxer primed. (CBC brass uses lg. pistol primers) Powder: ffg (2f) black powder 75 to 85 grains by weight, or BP 2f substitute by VOLUME measure. The 577-450 doesn't care for lighter charges due to the bottleneck design. Bullet: From .468 or .470 diameter. 405gr. or heavier. Again, the MH doesn't care for lighter weight bullets for reasonable ranges. Liquid alox lube prevents crud ringing when using sub-powders. .458 to .460 diameter bullets need to be paper patched. Beeswax 'cookie' beneath the bullet for lube. Overpowder filler: Carded wool, Cream of Wheat (COW), or shredded surgical cotton. Carded wool is difficult to locate in smaller amounts. COW compresses in the bottleneck (at least in my mind's eye) so I've been using sterile cotton. No oils or perfumes to contaminate the powder. Shred apart and use enough to lightly fill the void. Contrary to popular opinion BP doesn't need to be compressed as tightly in a cartridge the same as in a muzzleloader. There are no cheap loadings money-wise. Cartridge and needed components won't allow for it. However a "soft ball" load for under 75 yards for plinking and/or pest control cosists of using a .480 diameter swaged round ball in lieu of a bullet. There is also a smokeless for black loading which I have never used. Different loading rules which involves IMR 4198. No data from me. Just a heads up in case you may be so inclined to persue that route. It's out there.

me too! when i fell, i actually hit my cheek so hard that i kind of got a black eye from them before they went flying off. my partner, Jackson, came running up to me and was like "are you ok!??" and the first thing i said was "ARE MY GLASSES OK!?? WHERE ARE THEY!??" i was so scared that i destroyed them.

  39. Got this from Tomas Garcia at Sid's in Santa Ana, CA. He has a special book of line drawings that he'd love to do. I had trouble deciding between two designs in particular, so he took both designs and made it into one. It was definitely a great experience over at Sid's. The entire crew is extremely hospitable. Very down to earth crew. I'm a fan for life. Tomas even drew up some hand made lettering for me too.

After 14 sessions spanning 15 months, I'm thrilled to say that my back piece--courtesy of Jay Cavna--is finished. It's a rooster/boar/snake battle royale with peonies. We just wrapped it up a few hours ago. I couldn't be happier with it and am blown away by Jay's skill and commitment to his work. Here's the pic.

  48. So, we grew up in the same house? I got bluebirds on my chest and after a truly devastating first semester at college, I moved back home. My mom came into my room in the morning -- without knocking! -- while I was asleep and saw a wing peeking up out of my t-shirt. She started shouting at me, emptied the laundry basket on top of me, and ran downstairs. Now, almost TEN YEARS LATER, she seems almost proud that I've become this kind of tattooed oddity. She just sent me some page from the Washington Post magazine about the Baltimore Tattoo museum hahahahaaa -- the first time she's actively showed an interest in anything tattoo-related!
