  1. @ Dan S you look like you could be Jack Passions father in those photos. . - - - Updated - - - AHHHHHH!!! THAT FILM!!!!! It's so gorgeous!!! The other day my chem teacher asked me if I was a "biker", because I have a black denim vest with a large back patch on it. I looked down at the ground and said solemnly "no." It's films and blogs like that that make me wish my answer was a "YES!", but then reality sets in about time and money, and all the other things that just drag you down once you step outside of daydream land. Reminds me of this little sleepy town called Port Costa in the bay area (just west of Martinez) but there's only one road in, and one road out, and the town only has maybe 300 people. They have this bar there with a giant taxidermied bear, which is odd that I'm interested in it because I don't drink and I'm vegan, but that's a separate tangent. Anyways, on any given Friday night, you can go there, and there's like 50 motorcycles parked outside (filling up most of the 1 block original "downtown" area, right by the railroad tracks, with the delta water on the other side). I always like to go to just be there, the silent voyeur, sitting back and taking it all in. It feels like that film and Dan S.'s photos. It feels like it's a place that's kind of stopped in time.

    Fraud In Tattooing

I'm not a fan of having an unknown (to me) artist working on me at a convention or anywhwere. At a convention, there is no allegiance to the client like you have when working from a shop. I don't know how widespread the problem is. Call me old school, but I still like a solid outline and the color filled in well. Any sizeable tattoo I've ever gotten has needed a touch up here and there. And nothin' looks better than a month-old healed tattoo, its all downhill from there. Your results may vary. Rob

  4. Just left the con. My first time at the London show, so I have no idea how it compared to other years but... Wow, some amazing stuff happening already. Couldn't get any work done but wandered around hoovering up t-shirts... Said hello to Valerie from frith street (briefly, their stall was one of the busiest I saw)... Nice to meet a famous LSTer- and she was very nice. Some random pics. I hung out with the East Tattoo guys and had a cask ale. Good day. Attached = a black and grey front piece Yang was working on... Dark Star cask ale... @jade1955 take note!!

  6. He's well-known in these parts, but I haven't seen much mention of Dave Cummings from PSC Tattoo, Montreal on LST: - - - Updated - - - Another local guy who I feel deserves some recognition (again, pretty well-known locally) is Pol from Pol Tattoo, Montreal.

  7. Of course they're totally worth it, it's not so bad, blah blah blah, but I thought it might be nice to have a space to bitch about one's healing in whatever stage it's in, as we all know that all there really is to do, beyond the basics, is wait. Today the tattoo I got on Saturday started flaking en masse. I have never quite seen anything like it with my other tattoos, which usually go from stage to stage much more gradually; it went from nothing to the entire thing (and it's the entire front of my thigh) flaking off at one time. It felt so dry and uncomfortable under my work pants that I kept locking my office door to secretly strip down and give it a little moisturizer. The inside of my pants looks like I'm some kind of dandruff hoarder. Oof. Whine away, folks.

  8. I was with a friend who has a ton of old work on him and this random lady says to him, "you look disgusting". He replies, "you obviously have no mirrors in your house". The husband walks over and starts to say something, wisely takes his hag by the arm and walks off. Rob

  9. I had a consultation with Randy Muller last week. He's saying he should have no problem covering the current mud on my back - or I can hit certain spots of it with a few laser sessions if I want to open up a couple of other possibilities, too. End results is intentioned to be a full back piece skull and snake.

Thanks to all LSTers (new & old) and the tattooers who have taken the time to do an interview with us and give your time and knowledge to try and make a good tattoo site/forum for customers and tattooers!!!! Also to the moderators @hogg @gougetheeyes & @slayer9019 who have taken on a thankless job of managing the daily playpen!!!! Lastly, I would like to thank the Wrights and Sylvias for their time and energy that they put forth on this venture of ours!!! 14. I got my last one a couple of days ago from Alvaro Llorar, who is now working out of Barcelona Electric Tattoo (in Barcelona, obviously). Awesome work, very creative and a good balance of different styles. His paintings are unreal too. Clicking on his name links you to his blog, but it hasn't been updated in months, I guess his FB has more recent stuff.

Not sure what a pound or a quid conversion to toilet paper is lately.... everything is relative. £5 back in the day may have been a week's worth of wages and everybody's overhead was dirt cheap. Rob

@Dhopper - yeah, at Triple Crown. I'm getting a jaguar with Mayan ruins & jungle worked inspired by 2012. Execution-wise, it'll be in line with Scott's other big Japanese and cat tattoos. He's been posting stuff on his Instagram that has me excited about next month

  20. I say thank you and really try not to engage it. Most people get it. Some ask to see more. DEpending on my mood I show or don't. I don't mind the questions most times. The only one I really ever mind is the what does it mean to you or why did you get that? I sometimes tell people my tattoos have no meaning. One woman came up to me randomly and said she didn't like tattoos and thought they were disgusting. I told her I thought the same about unsolicited opinions. She didn't get it.

  21. I am a chef. Being a chef and eating out, I sometimes get a professional courtesy of a couple free apps or dessert or a glass of wine for free or have had items taken off the bill. It is a courtesy and I always tip up to pay it back to the server. I think often times tattoo artists offer a courtesy to repeat clients & friends, but everyone should know it is at their discretion. I think some clients place too much emphasis on the bond they may create with a tattoo artist. Getting a tattoo is a very personal thing. You are letting someone alter your body by piercing your skin thousands of times. You have to have trust. That said, the client has to understand that they are sitting there paying for a service the artist is offering. If they are unhappy with the arrangement they can chose to leave or alter it. If an artist cuts you a "deal," say thank, give them a better tip and most of all don't expect that every time you get work done. Professional courtesy is a courtesy, not a given and definitely should not be expected. By coming to expect's it, the client under values the artist's skill and the relationship between artist & client. I have been hooked up by tattoo artist friends and I have paid $250/hour. Each time I go in with only one expectation....a good tattoo.

My first and only tattoo so far is a sleeve and connected chest panel that I've been working on this year (6 appointments and counting). I'm going to get a wolf head on my leg when this is finished and I joked with my artist that it will feel funny to walk in and leave with a completed tattoo in one session.

Well, it is more of a commitment for you and Scott. Now, there are some beast out there that can sit for hours, I have seen a guy have his chest blasted for hours by Thomas hooper! It really depends on the tattoo. I know when I was getting my outer thigh done by Jason brooks, it was going to be quicker to get finish then Chris Trevino doing the inside of my right arm. With Jason, it didn't feel like a commitment but the more sessions you do, the more it cost, the longer it takes to get it, the tattoo, finished. Anything that you tattoo on yourself is a commitment. A single session tattoo is like having a one night stand. One and done! You dont really spend as much time with the tattooer, like a one nighter, as you do in a multiple sessions tattoo, like you would with a girlfriend/boyfriend. Is this going to be done at triple crown?

  27. Hold it. Are you trying to tell me that you don't want to hear about how their faded tribal koi fish riding a unicorn the size of a dime on their shoulder blade reminds them of the frog that ran away when they were three years old????? You probably don't want to hear about their plans to get "tatted up" with a full body suit that they are planning to get done by the guy that does their brother-in-laws next door neighbor's scratching in his basement weekends when he's out of prison on work release. What kind of heartless person are you? :-)

  37. On the Wednesday & Thursday before last years London Tattoo convention I got tattooed on the outside of both lower legs. Nothing too large (about hand sized). On the Friday all seemed well a little swollen but nothing drastic. So Saturday came and it was off to the Tattoo convention. Had a really great day there and even got a walk up from Nick Colella. After a long day on my feet I got home I noticed my ankles felt a bit sore. Anyway when I took my trousers off I freaked out. My ankles were red raw bright red and really swollen as were my calves. A bright red rash covered both legs up to the knees. Being diabetic I nearly crapped myself. The next day there was no improvement so I took myself to the A&E of the local hospital. Anyway they were totally mystified. They gave me some anti histamine and sent me home. I ended up having to take a week off work. In May I got tattooed on the inside of my lower leg by @mario desa. Anyway when Mario showed me what he'd drawn up it was quite a bit bigger than I thought. It fitted really nice so great. Usually ,with me, about a hour or two after a getting a tattoo it starts to sting a little and then after that it starts to calm down. This was completely different. When I was on the train home it felt like Mario was still tattooing me. Taking into account my previous experience with lower leg tattoos I had taken a days holiday on the Thursday to give time for any swelling to subside. But as with the first lower leg tattoos the problems started a few days after the tattoo this time with the most excruciating pain. Come Monday I only managed a half shift at work and had to take half shift holiday on the Tuesday & Wednesday. Lower leg tattoos don’t you just love them?

  39. I got my tattoo on my upper arm. While using my computer at work, in a dress shirt, every time I was moving my arm, flakes would come out of the shirt from the wrist area and dump all over my desk. It was kind of funny as I noticed wherever I was in the office, I left some flakes. Copy machine, desk, kitchen area... and sadly a bit in my car. My bed looked like I was around a volcano with "ashy" looking flakes all in it. As far as sleeping went, I propped pillows in my bed so I couldn't roll over and it actually worked out pretty well. Part of the right of passage for my first tattoo?

    Old tattoo photos

Heres a couple of mine. These were done 1970/71 when I was 15/16. The skull, my first ever tattoo is over 40 years old. The reds have gone from both of them but they are in pretty good nick considering. The artist was a guy called Steve who had a shop in the city of Bath, England. I think it was in Broad Street. Don't know what became of him. No appointments or bringing in artwork in those days. All walk ins. You just sat and waited your turn. The clients were bikers, skinheads and low lifes like me. I remember him tattooing and smoking rollups.
